Jan received her Associates Degree in nursing from the Angelo State University in 1986 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kaplan University in 2015. In 2017, she received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in nursing from Purdue University Global in Davenport, Iowa (formerly named Kaplan University).
Jan has ample experience teaching nursing courses and examining, diagnosing, and treating children and adults with a range of simple to complex health conditions. She was a faculty member for the Vocational Nursing Program at the Brightwood College in San Antonio, Texas, where she taught extensive courses on geriatrics, pediatrics, medical surgical nursing, and the fundamentals of nursing. She also assisted with pre- and post-operative services at the Stone Oak Surgery Center in San Antonio.
From 1999 to 2005, Jan served as an Emergency Room Staff Nurse and Senior Clinical Administrator at the Methodist Children’s Hospital. She served as a Flight Crew Supervisor for the EMS helicopter, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, and an Emergency Room Staff Nurse for the Shannon Medical Center.
Since 1986, Jan has been an instructor for the Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) at the San Antonio Emergency Nurses Association and since February 2019, she has been a faculty member of the Vocational Nursing Program at the Galen College of Nursing in San Antonio. To advance her learning and skills, Jan also worked at the All Better Clinic under a prestigious supervising physician, Dr. Roy Guerrero.
Jan has an impressive repertoire and multiple awards and acknowledgments. In 1992, she was awarded the United Way Grant to establish the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program at the Shannon Medical Center. That same year she received the Friends to Victims of Crimes award after the implementation of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program.
Jan was truly instrumental in the development and launch of the hospital-based EMS Helicopter Program at the Shannon Hospital in 1994. She also achieved the Recipient of Emergency Nurses Association Team Award for working collaboratively with the military to provide TNCC courses for those being deployed at the Fort Sam military base in San Antonio, Texas.
Prominent in her field, Jan is a professional member of the Emergency Nurses Association, the Texas Nurse Practitioners, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
